The display section of a spec sheet is packed with acronyms. Here's what the most common ones actually mean in everyday use.

AMOLED / OLED: Both refer to screen types where individual pixels generate their own light. The result is deep blacks and punchy colors. AMOLED is Samsung's branded version of OLED technology — functionally similar in most consumer contexts.

LCD / IPS LCD: Liquid Crystal Display technology that uses a backlight. Generally not as contrast-rich as OLED but often accurate and reliable. IPS (In-Plane Switching) is a higher-quality LCD subtype with wider viewing angles.

LTPO: A display technology that allows the refresh rate to change dynamically — dropping as low as 1Hz when showing a static image and rising to 120Hz during fast-moving content. This flexibility can improve battery efficiency.

Nits: A unit measuring screen brightness. More nits means easier readability in direct sunlight. Screens above 1,000 nits are generally considered good for outdoor use.

Resolution (e.g., 1080p, 1440p, FHD+, QHD+): The number of pixels on screen. Higher resolution means finer detail, but the difference is most noticeable on larger screens or when viewing fine text.

PPI (Pixels Per Inch): How densely pixels are packed. A higher PPI typically means sharper text and images. Most people cannot distinguish individual pixels above roughly 300 PPI at normal viewing distance.

Wi-Fi 6 / Wi-Fi 6E: The current mainstream generation of Wi-Fi, offering faster speeds and better performance in crowded environments. Wi-Fi 6E adds access to the 6GHz frequency band for even less interference.

Bluetooth version: Higher Bluetooth versions (5.0, 5.3) improve range, speed, and power efficiency for wireless accessories like earbuds and speakers.

USB-C / USB 3.2 / Thunderbolt: USB-C describes the connector shape. The version number (3.2, 4) indicates transfer speed — important if you plan to move large files or use the port for video output.

Some spec sheet features — particularly 5G band support, eSIM availability, and storage configurations — can differ between the same phone model sold in different countries or through different carriers.
